Studio Spotlight: Now and Zen Yoga Studio

At Hugger Mugger, we love shining a light on the yoga communities that inspire us every day. This month, we’re thrilled to feature Now and Zen Yoga Studio -where they have created a safe, inclusive space where everyone belongs, regardless of age, fitness level, or background.

Q: Tell us a little about your studio's journey. How did it all begin?

I opened the studio in September of 2004 because I saw a need for a safe place for all ages, body types, and health conditions. What started out as a one instructor studio has grown to a staff of twenty. We offer yoga and Pilates classes from a therapeutic nature to advanced levels. We have been a 200 hour and 300 hour registered school with Yoga Alliance since 2011. In 2026 I brought on Liana Roman as a partner.

Q: What makes your studio unique? What kind of yoga do you specialize in?

Our studio is unique in the fact that we have numerous styles and levels of yoga and Pilates. Our philosophy has always been that postures need to be accessible to everyone. We always make adaptations for students so that they feel safe, seen and welcome. We have Hatha yoga classes as well as Svastha yoga, which follows the teachings of A.G., Indra and Ganesh Mohan of Svastha Yoga and Ayurveda. Our studio is also unique because our student population ranges in age from 20’s to 80’s. We have specific classes that do not have weight bearing poses in them but still works on strength, balance and mobility.

Q: How would you describe your community?

Our community is open minded and welcoming to all. In our classes you will see a 20 year old practicing with an 80 year old. We have a community that is looking for ways to stay strong and mobile but are also looking for the deeper philosophical aspects of yoga.

Q: Do you have a favorite Hugger Mugger product you use in your classes?

We use Hugger Mugger for our public mats, our bolsters and blocks. We love all of the products. We appreciate the Big Blue blocks for those with a need to more stability and limited Range of Motion makes using the small blocks difficult.

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d share with someone who’s new to yoga?

Listen to your body and breath. It is a process and you should never feel forced to keep up or do something that is not comfortable for you. Let go of expectations and find grace in the moment.

Q: What’s next for your studio?

We will continue to reach out into the community to offer yoga that is accessible to all.
