At Hugger Mugger, we love shining a light on the yoga communities that inspire us every day.
This month, we’re thrilled to feature Flow Yoga – An Austin born wellness brand focused on creating spaces and communities with that one-of-a-kind experience, like tea lounges in their studios, free mats & props to use, and lots of meetups and community events.
Q: Tell us a little about Flow Yoga Studio. How did it all begin?
Flow started in 2012 as a small studio just outside Austin. Carolina was the first teacher, bringing her global experience in yoga, fitness, and wellness. Over time, a small team formed around the idea of creating a studio that truly put students and teachers first.
They focused on offering a really great experience – making classes affordable, accessible, and genuinely welcoming. Word spread, the community grew, and before long, Flow expanded into multiple Austin locations while keeping the same friendly, down-to-earth vibe it started with.
Q: What makes your studio unique? What kind of yoga do you specialize in?
The thing that makes Flow unique is the community. We really focus on creating a space that’s welcoming to everyone. Yoga is our foundation, but community is our focus.
We offer so many different ways to connect: acro jam sessions, tai chi, meditation and breathwork groups, special events, and meetups. There’s even a free tea lounge, free props, and a schedule packed with tons of classes across multiple styles and locations. Whether someone’s into vinyasa, yin, sound, or just hanging out after class, there’s space for them here.
Q: How would you describe your community?
Think of it like Austin’s weird family. We’ve got everyone from total beginners to long-time teachers, from 20-somethings fresh off their first yoga mat to grandparents who could out-plank you any day.
People come for yoga, but they stay for the community – for the hugs after class, the spontaneous deep talks in the lounge over tea, and the feeling that you can just show up exactly as you are.
Q: Do you have a favorite Hugger Mugger product you use in your classes?
We absolutely love the Hugger Mugger bolsters. We’ve tried a lot of brands over the years across our different studios, and honestly, nothing holds up like these do. They’re used dozens of times a day, and they still look and feel great – even after endless washes. The color stays, the shape stays – they’re just the best.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d share with someone who’s new to yoga?
We hear it all the time: “I can’t do yoga, I’m not flexible.” That’s exactly why you come to yoga. You don’t have to know what you’re doing or be able to touch your toes. You come to build strength, mobility, flexibility – and patience with yourself.
Just show up. Everyone starts somewhere, and half the practice is learning to breathe and be okay with falling over sometimes.
Q: What’s next for Flow Yoga?
We’re growing – new studios, new offerings, new ideas – but the focus stays the same: keeping yoga accessible and keeping the community strong.
For us, it’s about continuing that growth while making sure it still feels like Flow — the same connected, welcoming vibe that’s built around people. We’re expanding to new locations, adding more styles and events, and helping other studios grow with the systems we’ve built along the way.
