At Hugger Mugger, we love shining a light on the yoga communities that inspire us every day. This month, we’re thrilled to feature Key West Yoga Sanctuary - A yoga sanctuary rooted in the principle that yoga should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age or ability.
Q: Tell us a little about your studio's journey. How did it all begin?
The Key West Yoga Sanctuary is a boutique yoga space at the heart of the island's yoga community for 15 years. This year we are celebrating 5 years in our garden shala and our current location at 612 Fleming Street. Born out of LOVE, the Yoga Sanctuary was conceived and continues to be a welcoming space for everyone who seeks spiritual growth and personal transformation.
Q: What makes your studio unique? What kind of yoga do you specialize in?
Our garden sanctuary is a very special place to experience yoga. Nestled in historic Old Town Key West, you'll find a hidden gem—a paradise. It's not only the setting that makes KWYS special, though. Our teachers bring decades of experience on the path of yoga and offer a wide range of daily classes from Ashtanga to Yin. Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Sound Baths, Kids Yoga, and Meditation are also part of our regular programming.
Q: How would you describe your community?
Our community is supportive and accessible. We do serious work and we do it with a smile. Community is everything in Key West and at KWYS. We offer three FREE Community Yoga classes each week to make sure these tools and practices are accessible to everyone who feels called.
Q: Do you have a favorite Hugger Mugger or Yoga Design Lab product you use in your classes?
We love all the vibrant colors and patterns of the Yoga Design Lab mats. Our students really appreciate the Combo Mat; it's ideal for those hot and humid Key West practices.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d share with someone who’s new to yoga?
It doesn't matter what the pose looks like—just stay connected to your breath. No effort on the path of yoga is ever wasted.
Q: What’s next for your studio?
Who knows what the future holds? We try to focus on presence HERE and NOW. That said, we are planning a little brand refresh, which includes a new website that we'll roll out in September as part of our 5 Years in the Garden celebration.
