Studio Spotlight: Centered City Yoga

At Hugger Mugger, we love shining a light on the yoga communities that inspire us every day.
This month, we’re thrilled to feature Centered City Yoga - a healing space where ancient practice touches the physical, mental, and energetic self. Where every body is welcome, every lineage is honored, and every class leaves you more whole.

Q: Tell us a little about your studio's journey. How did it all begin?

Centered City Yoga was founded in 2002 by Dana Baptiste and led by her until 2016. Today, Centered City Yoga remains part of the 9th & 9th Community, continuing to provide a safe, inclusive space for all. Students of every body type and lifestyle can come together to build stability, coordination, and balance—with genuine support from a welcoming community. It’s more than a yoga studio—it’s the one place where people feel comfortable walking through the doors. When class ends, and the doors open onto the street of 9th & 9th, a wave of positive energy flows through the neighborhood. ✨🧘♀️

Q: What makes your studio unique? What kind of yoga do you specialize in?

Centered City Yoga offers over 100 classes a week, 20 different styles of yoga. Two locations, heated or non-heated yoga. Whatever your experience, whatever your mood, we have a class for you! Additionally, we are the only yoga studio that offers weekly scheduled meditation and prenatal classes.

Q: How would you describe your community?

People often say, “You don’t look like a yogi.” But we learned something important: we’re all yogis. No matter your age, your body type, your experience. Through our healing, we give others permission to heal, too. Our community includes all ages and all occupations. With discipline, we show up—practice, practice, practice—and we express our fullest potential in the world through the ancient healing practice of yoga. Whatever your job, your hobbies, or your life circumstances, our studio offers a place to pursue your life with less physical pain and suffering. Because if you have pain in your body, it’s hard to feel mentally at peace. We provide a platform for whole-being integration—to heal your body, deepen your experience, and find peace. 🌿✨

Q: Do you have a favorite Hugger Mugger product you use in your classes?

Fabric Bolster at Main, and Foam Rollers for Hot Yin that resist the sweat.

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d share with someone who’s new to yoga?

Yoga is accessible to all. It does require discipline, sustained, consistent practice. That is all it requires. The practice must be non- negotiable. We cannot care for others unless we care for ourselves. We cannot love others unless we love ourselves. Yoga connects us to our truest selves, which is love and service.

Q: What’s next for your studio?

We launched True Nature Day Camp to support the little ones in nature, practice yoga, and skills to create a healing presence in their lives and those that surround them.
